The term Manufacturing Company has not been defined
specifically under the provisions of the Companies Act,
1956. However, the term is defined in the MANUFACTURING
AND OTHER COMPANIES (AUDITOR'S REPORT) ORDER, 1988 to
mean a company engaged in any manufacturing process
as defined in the Factories Act, 1948 (63 of 1948).
Accordingly, a manufacturing company may be one which
is engaged in or proposes to engage in a manufacturing
process of making, altering, repairing, ornamenting,
finishing, packing, oiling, washing, cleaning, breaking
up, demolishing, or otherwise treating or adapting any
article or substance with a view to its use, sale, transport,
delivery or disposal; or generating, transforming or
transmitting power; or composing types for printing,
printing by letter press, lithography, photogravure
or other similar process or book binding; or constructing,
reconstructing, repairing, refitting, finishing or breaking
up ships or vessels etc.
